Hetrick-Martin Institute Celebrates Trans Day of Visibility
Transgender Youth Are Safe At Hetrick-Martin Institute
At Hetrick-Martin Institute, we believe that the number one thing transgender and gender-non-conforming youth need right now is the support of a caring community. Today’s world, rife with transphobia, homophobia and bigotry, is already unsafe. Recent efforts by the federal government to delegitimize transgender and gender-non-conforming people only further hurt a community under attack.
It is well-documented that transgender and gender-non-conforming people live with the constant threat of emotional and physical harm every day. This is especially true for those who also identify as people of color. Attempts by the Trump administration to eliminate necessary protections for transgender and gender-non-conforming people will increase these threats.
We strongly condemn this erasure of our transgender and gender-non-conforming communities. As an organization, we will never stop doing everything in our power to provide a safe haven for LGBTQIA+ youth, and will continue to offer every possible measure of support and opportunity for them to thrive. While we fight for justice and advocate for change, HMI will continue to provide LGBTQIA+ young people with access to counseling, legal support, health and medical services, emergency services and other resources. We will also provide a safe space where they can talk to us about anything from family to Transgender Dating to their treatment process.
If you are a transgender or gender-non-conforming young person, you are safe at HMI – today and always.
We are looking forward to welcoming you. Becoming a youth member starts here.
Check out programming and events. All are safe and supportive spaces for transgender and gender non-binary youth.
