PRESS STATEMENT
Hetrick-Martin Institute Responds to Supreme Court Abortion Decision
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JUNE 24, 2022, NEW YORK, NY
Access to safe and legal abortion is healthcare. Access to safe and legal abortion is fundamentally necessary. Access to safe and legal abortion is a human right. And Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) is committed to ensuring that every birthing person in the United States continues to have access to safe and legal abortions.
At the core of HMI’s work is the clear understanding that there is no wrong or right way to have a body. Implicit in that understanding is that all people deserve pleasure, power over their body, safety, and autonomy. For us, that autonomy is directly connected to how we advocate for LGBTQIA+ youth. To identify in ways that are self-affirming; adorn their bodies in ways that make them feel powerful and special; and access the medical care that will help them live, standing fully in their dignity, including abortion access. That is what it means to empower LGBTQIA+ youth.
Hetrick-Martin Institute implores our supporters to learn more about what you can do to help make access to abortions legal and safe for all birthing people across the country. Connect with our friends at New York Abortion Access Fund, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Action Fund, NARAL Pro Choice America, and Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice to learn more about your role in ensuring that all birthing people have access to abortion.
