HELP US FILL THE BOOTS
In the early 80’s, HMI was the benefactor of an anonymous donor — as many of our donors during that time were due to fear of being outed — who filled a pair of cowboy boots with cash and delivered it to our founders. The money donated was one of the first large gifts we ever received and served as an important sign of organizational strength which helped us secure our first government contracts – something relatively unheard of for LGBTQ youth of color during that time.
In the spirit of that gift, we will be asking our Emery Awards guests to “fill the boot” through donations the night of, and hope you will consider making a special donation today, in honor of our 40th Anniversary to help us start the bidding. We will announce these gifts in the room and thank you for your dedication to our young people.
