HMI CEO, Amy Harclerode, Named Women in Development’s 2026 Woman of Achievement
We’re proud to spotlight the leaders who make our work possible. Today, we’re honored to shine the light on one such trailblazer.
Hetrick-Martin Institute is proud to share that our CEO, Amy Harclerode, has been selected as the 2026 Woman of Achievement by Women in Development (WID). This annual honor recognizes leaders who elevate philanthropy, strengthen nonprofit partnerships, and inspire generosity across New York’s social-impact landscape.
This recognition reflects Amy’s deep commitment to service, community, and possibility. Over more than two decades in fundraising and nonprofit leadership, she has championed the belief that the most meaningful impact happens when passionate people are given the tools and resources to bring their vision to life.
Since joining HMI in 2017 as Chief Development Officer, Amy has helped transform how the organization engages with its mission — from record-breaking fundraising initiatives to expanding mental health programming and amplifying the voices of LGBTQIA+ young people. In 2023, she became CEO and, alongside HMI’s dedicated team, has led the organization through a challenging climate marked by hostility and funding cuts. Under her leadership, HMI continues to stand firm as a safer space and affirming home for thousands of queer and trans youth.
Amy’s leadership has been recognized citywide and statewide, including her place on the Power of Diversity: Pride 100and as one of New York’s LGBTQ+ Power Players. Beyond HMI, she Chairs the Board of GRACE, a gorilla conservation organization based in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and serves on the Board of the Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre.
Throughout her career, Amy has focused not only on building resources, but on building movements — connecting people to the causes that inspire them and turning collective generosity into lasting change. That same spirit guides her leadership at HMI today, ensuring that every young person who walks through our doors has the support, community, and opportunity they need to thrive.
We look forward to celebrating this achievement with Women in Development on May 15, 2026, and honoring the impact Amy continues to make for LGBTQIA+ youth in New York City and beyond.
