BECOME A YOUTH MEMBER
Joining HMI is free, simple, and centered around you. Becoming a youth member connects you to support, creativity, and community — all in a space where you’re respected and affirmed.
Becoming an HMI youth member is easy, and gives you a safe place to join other LGBTQIA+ youth in programs that will lift you up, help you learn, and let you express yourself. HMI members are able to access programs and services, including:
Support & Care
- Counseling, support groups, creative arts therapy, and psychiatric services
- Case management for housing, food security, IDs, and health insurance
- HIV testing, STI screening, and linkage to PrEP/PEP
Learning & Growth
- Paid internships, job fairs, and job readiness training
- High school equivalency prep classes
- Health education groups and internships
Community & Daily Needs
- After-school enrichment (art studio, book club, fitness, dance, college fairs)
- Monthly community activities and events
- Pantry services (food bags, toiletries, clothing)
Who can join?
- Anyone ages 13–24 can become an HMI youth member.
- You don’t need to be in school or have a permanent address.
- All programs and services are free, and HMI is open year-round.

Our programs and services are designed with LGBTQIA+ youth in mind. HMI is a welcoming space for young people ages 13–24, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or where you are in your journey. You don’t need to have everything figured out — you belong here.
Want to Become a New Member?
Send an email or a text to join@hmi.org with your name and phone number (if you have one) and we will contact you. We also offer walk-in intakes on a first-come, first-serve basis Monday-Friday from 4-7 pm. If you decide to do a walk-in instead of scheduling ahead of time, please arrive by 5:30 pm, since the latest intake appointment will be at 6 pm.
