Remembering Dr. Arnold H. Grossman, Former HMI Board Member and LGBTQIA+ Youth Advocate
Hetrick-Martin Institute mourns the passing of Dr. Arnold (“Arnie”) H. Grossman, a beloved former board member, distinguished psychologist, and tireless advocate for LGBTQIA+ youth.
A professor emeritus at NYU Steinhardt, Dr. Grossman dedicated much of his career to advancing research that deepened the field’s understanding of the lived experiences, mental health, and resilience of queer and trans adolescents. His groundbreaking work not only influenced public discourse, but helped shape policy, clinical practice, and the way youth-serving organizations like HMI support young people.
Dr. Grossman served on HMI’s Board of Directors during a pivotal time of growth, and his expertise and compassion helped strengthen the foundation of our mental health and support services. He remained a steadfast champion of HMI’s mission well beyond his board tenure.
We are deeply grateful for Dr. Grossman’s legacy and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, students, and colleagues. His life’s work continues to uplift the youth we serve.
