PRESS STATEMENT
Statement from Hetrick-Martin Institute on New York State Department of Labor Workforce Development Grant
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JUNE 30 2025, NEW YORK, NY
Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) is honored to be among the recipients of new state funding announced by Governor Kathy Hochul during Pride Month to support New York’s LGBTQIA+ community. As part of this initiative, the New York State Department of Labor awarded HMI $250,000 to strengthen and expand our workforce development programming.
“This investment will go a long way in helping our young people build the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed in today’s workforce,” said Amy Harclerode, CEO of HMI. “At a time when federal funding for vital youth services is increasingly uncertain, we’re especially grateful to Governor Hochul and the Department of Labor for recognizing the importance of supporting queer and trans youth in meaningful, long-term ways.”
HMI’s workforce development programs provide job readiness training, career exploration, paid internships, and individualized support—all tailored to the unique needs of LGBTQIA+ youth, particularly youth of color.
We’re proud to stand alongside New York State in ensuring every young person has a pathway to economic independence and a future filled with possibility.
