Every day at the Hetrick-Martin Institute, our staff make urgent, deeply human decisions—who gets a warm meal, a safe place to sleep, or a much-needed counseling session. The need is rising, and resources don’t always match it. This interactive experience offers a glimpse into the emotional labor behind those choices, and how your support helps us say “yes” to more young people who deserve safety, care, and community.

Choose a Critical Need to Support

Want to support broadly? Become a Friend of HMI with a monthly gift, or make a one-time donation of any amount.

Open the door to healing
A therapy session can be the first time a young person feels truly heard. It’s a chance to name their pain and start imagining a future where their mental health is valued.

Provide a night of safety
An emergency bed often means the first night a youth feels safe — a place to rest, breathe, and know they belong somewhere.

Nourish a young person with dignity
A pantry visit is more than food. It restores energy, reduces anxiety, and reminds youth they deserve to be cared for.

Help build belonging
Peer mentors offer connection through shared experience. For many youth, seeing someone who has walked their path creates hope and strength.

A Legacy of Courage.
A Call to Continue.

Leaders from across HMI’s history reflect on nearly five decades of supporting LGBTQIA+ youth, from the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis to today’s push to protect hard-won rights. Their stories remind us why HMI’s mission endures—the courage of young people and the power of community.
