PRESS STATEMENT
DOJ Subpoenas Threaten Trans Youth Safety and Dignity
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUGUST 22 2025, NEW YORK, NY
The Department of Justice’s move to subpoena medical records of trans youth is a direct violation of privacy. Dignity and safety are paramount—no young person should ever fear that their most personal medical information could be weaponized against them. These actions are invasive, traumatizing, and undermine the trust that youth place in the systems meant to care for them.
At Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI), we stand committed to queer and trans youth. Every young person deserves to know that their identities are valid, their privacy matters, and their dignity is non-negotiable. In the face of political attacks, HMI remains a place where youth are respected, affirmed, and supported.
