SUMMARY:HMI Speaker Series: June 2020
DESCRIPTION:MONDAY\, JUNE 15   •   6-7PM \nZOOM LINK WILL BE PROVIDED AFTER REGISTRATION \nQueer The Table is a podcast from Heritage Radio Network (HRN) about the joyful\, messy\, radical magic that happens in spaces where queerness and food intersect. \nOn Monday June 15th\, in collaboration with the Hetrick-Martin Institute\, Queer The Table is bringing a virtual conversation to you live as host Nico Wisler explores the idea of “queer food” and the importance of queer community within the world of food and hospitality. \nAs some of you may know\, this live podcast has been through several iterations. When we shifted from an in-person gathering to a digital event this spring\, we knew that our conversation would broaden to cover the Covid-19 crisis. We know now that we also need to shine a light on the ways that Black leaders across the food industry and queer community are responding to the escalating crises of racism and police brutality. \n\n\nREGISTER FOR FREE\n\n\nPRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH\n           \nPANELIST BIOS \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nNICO WISLER – Host\, Queer the Table\nNico Wisler is a middle school teacher\, storyteller\, and enthusiastic dinner party host who is forever swooned by the intimacy of both cooking and making radio. Food was a gateway into other cultures\, lives\, and places in NYC. Today\, Andre is a Hot Sauce and Food Entrepreneur currently expanding the Shaquanda Will Feed You brand across the United States of America online and in real life. SUMMARY:Moving Toward Belonging - Part 1
DESCRIPTION:A facilitated Zoom panel discussion between HMI staff members and HR professionals exploring the complexities that LGBTQIA+ young people face when entering the workplace. Through this experience organizations can learn valuable tools and insights to support recruiting\, onboarding and in boarding\, creating inclusive environments\, and strong retention strategies to create a diverse pipeline.  \n\n\n\nAccording to Gallup\, The percentage of U.S. adults who self-identify as lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender or something other than heterosexual has increased to a new high of 7.1%\, which is double the percentage from 2012\, when Gallup first measured it. In 2019\, the LGBTQIA+ population represented almost $3.7 trillion in market share buying power. \n\n\n\nThese statistics inform organizations that having a strong workforce where LGBTQIA+ employees are represented and feel safe allows the organization to be a true reflection of the marketplace they serve. How will you connect more deeply with your workforce and workplace to also connect more deeply with your marketplace?

SUMMARY:Moving Toward Belonging - Part 2
DESCRIPTION:We learn about ourselves and enhance our organizations through listening to other people’s stories. Join us for this Fireside Chat to hear from a parent and child and how their journey impacts organizations\, workforce communities\, communities at-large\, and loved ones.  \n\n\n\nOrganizations know that supporting their employees is the way to create safe spaces and environments where employees can bring their full authentic selves to work. The LGBQ and TGNC journey is unique. Non-conforming identities within this community are sometimes visible and other times invisible. This Fireside Chat will allow you to hear the stories\, experience the transitions that happen within the workplace\, and determine ways to enhance your ability to connect with this community. How will your organization learn from your employees’ stories?
