Director, individual Giving

 

Unit:                             Development

Department:                Individual Giving

Reports to:                  Associate Executive Director, Development

Classifications:           Exempt, F.T. (Administrative)

 

Responsibilities:

Administer, manage and plan all aspects of Hetrick’s Individual Fundraising activities in coordination with the Associate Executive Director of Development and the Development Committee of the Board of Directors.  These activities include but are not limited to the following: direct mail, annual giving, major donors, cultivation events, individual donor foundations, bequests and legacies, and individual participation in capital campaigns.

 

1)      Management and achievement of the fundraising individual giving program. 

2)      Planning and producing of all individual fundraising and cultivation efforts.

3)      Planning cultivation strategies and actions essential to growth of donor base. 

4)      Management of individual giving, including annual fund, appeals, and stewardship.

5)      Key, senior-level role in revenue generation.

 

Essential Duties and Tasks:

1)      Work with the Executive Director and Associate Executive Director of Development to set priorities and financial goals and develop annual strategic plan for all individual giving, incorporating best practices current trends and Agency needs.

2)      Pro-actively create, lead, promote and coordinate a strategy map (including budget, timeline, leadership recruitment, donor cultivation) for all individual giving efforts that develops diverse revenue streams.

3)      Systematically research, cultivate, approach, secure and steward major donor prospects  and all other donors/patrons (renewal and new) to meet funding goals.   

4)      Oversee and manage the design, development and implementation of a cost-effective Annual Giving Plan including the annual giving calendar and the direct mail campaigns.

a)      Execute the timely writing, editing, and completion of all donor appeals, solicitations and materials.  Materials should be competitive, marketing-based as appropriate and completed within a timely manner with attention to detail.

b)      In coordination with the Communications and Public Relations Manager, supervise the design, production and distribution of marketing and collateral materials as they relate to Individual Giving

c)      Cultivate and solicit major donors and support board members & Executive Director to develop cultivation and solicitation skills.

d)      Pro-actively create, lead, promote and coordinate monthly cultivation events.

5)      Cultivate long-term relationships with patrons and individuals to ensure continued event and donor involvement and stewardship. 

6)      Organize and maintain donor records, physical and electronic.

7)      Develop and institute policies to effectively run department.  Maintain policies and procedures manual for individual area of responsibility.

8)       Assist in the planning and execution of other Development Department and Agency priorities, as requested.

9)      Liaise with Board of Directors and other volunteers, providing support and training as needed.

10)  Supervise Development, and volunteer staff who support the Individual Giving program.

11)  Support board development subcommittee on Individual Giving and coordinate activities of committee closely with board subcommittee chair.

12)  Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

1)      A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of least 2-3 years experience in the administration and management of an individual giving or direct mail or major donor relations.

2)      Excellent writing, interpersonal and group communications skills.

3)      Computer Skills:  Strong with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point.

4)      Experience in using Raisers Edge Software or another similar donor base system. 

5)      Exceptional administrative, organizational and time management skills.

 

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

1)      Knowledge of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning orientation/sexual identity issues.
